Applications are now being taken for the LEBC Scholarship Program. Starting this year we are adding the professional designation as an eligible program for receiving scholarship funds. In order to be eligible, an applicant must be a full-time or part-time college student studying in an accredited academic program leading to a degree, or a current benefits professional working toward a professional designation. They must reside either in the Louisville metropolitan area, including Southern Indiana, or be enrolled in a college in Kentucky or Indiana . LEBC members may apply, if eligible.

The applicant must demonstrate an interest in a career in the employee benefits field through either course of study or work experience. Current LEBC Executive Board members and their relatives are not eligible to participate. Prior recipients are eligible to reapply.

For 2008, the LEBC Scholarship program provides for a scholarship of $1,000 which may be split among multiple recipients. The recipients will be announced in June and be presented with the award at the Council's June or September monthly meeting. The professional designation awards will be paid to the recipient(s) as a reimbursement of actual fees paid within the preceding 12 months.

Applications for 2008 are due by June 1, 2008.

Louisville Employee Benefits Council 2008 Scholarship Program

The Louisville Employee Benefits Council (LEBC) is a non-profit corporation designed to educate and inform its membership on employee benefit related matters. Our membership consists of over 230 professionals in the field of employee benefits including benefits managers, plan administrators, human resources managers, attorneys, paralegals, benefits consultants, insurance agents, trust officers, investment advisors, accountants and actuaries.

Scholarship Program

The purpose of the LEBC's Scholarship Program is to further the aims of the Council to advance the knowledge and education of individuals in the employee benefits field, or those aspiring to careers in employee benefits. Careers in employee benefits include but are not limited to: actuarial sciences; ERISA and legal aspects of employee benefits; pension design and planning; work and family issues; and corporate employee benefits design, analysis and management.

Eligibility

Selection Process

The award will be based on demonstrated educational performance and benefit career aspirations and goals. Some of the criteria used by the Scholarship Committee in determining eligibility and award are:

  • Specific employee benefit related study, activities and goals
  • Academic performance
  • School and community activities
  • Work experience

Student applicants will be required to provide:

  • Completed scholarship application
  • Proof of exam results
  • Copy of check and written statement indicating no financial assistance was provided from any other source.
